Sell ads
on websites and blogs is probably one of the strategies commonly used by bloggers and webmasters. However, the
vast majority of bloggers do not
know how to make money selling
ads, much less the
strategies and rules to follow to
get captivate the attention of advertisers.
Many bloggers do not get a recurring stream of
advertisers, which means that
your ad units are often being occupied by affiliate programs to their
own use. Then there are those
bloggers who just starting a blog,
place ads available for purchase at ridiculous prices of $ 5/month. What is common to both cases is that none
of them are using the best
strategies to derive maximum return
on their areas of advertising.
Another point to be considered is that some
advertising formats are no longer
providing desired results
to advertisers and bloggers. That happens naturally with the format of 125 × 125,
which has to stop being used by many
well-known blogs, and is being largely replaced by the format of 200 × 125
which we also decided to use the new layout
of the school money. Being aware of these changes
is very important, especially when your
goal is to offer its advertisers the maximum profitability for the price they paid for the ad.
If you can not guarantee this return, advertisers are unlikely to renew their ads on a monthly basis, which means you are losing money. Also, you should also
take into account how long it takes
a blog to become
profitable, so they do not make mistakes of a beginner in their sales strategies.
When the money School began in February 2008,
selling advertising was actually a
utopia. The blog
was not enough traffic to sell advertising yet,
just as we did not consider this possibility even in
the first instance. After about four
months of the launch of the
blog, we decided it was time to start selling advertising
space. However, selling advertising
on a blog takes us to a series of questions
which we must be able to answer, namely:
- Why I want to sell advertising
- Is it too early to sell advertising?
- The sale of advertising falls within the objectives of the blog?
- I get enough traffic to attract advertisers for my blog?
- The blog produces pages read enough to justify the investiment of the advertiser?
- What values should I charge?
To answer all these questions,
you need a lot of things into consideration, these points I would like to discuss
in this article, which was
based on the story of Keller Hawthorne in the
article 'Sell Ad Space'.
